Modeling, experimenting, and improving skid steering on a 6 × 6 all-terrain mobile platform

چکیده
Multiple-wheel all-terrain vehicles without a steering system must use great amounts of power when skid steering. Skid steering is modeled with emphasis put on the ground contact forces of the wheels according to the mass distribution of the vehicle. To increase steering efficiency, it is possible to modify the distribution of the normal contact forces on the wheels. This paper focuses on two aspects: first, it provides a model and an experimental study of skid steering on an all-road 6×6 electric wheelchair, the Kokoon mobile platform. Second, it studies two configurations of the distribution of the normal forces on the six wheels, obtained via suspension adjustments. This was both modeled and experimented. Contact forces were measured with a six-component force plate. The first results show that skid steering can be substantially improved by only minor adjustments to the suspensions. This setting decreases the required longitudinal forces applied by the engines and improves the steering ability of the vehicle or robot. Skid-steering characteristic parameters, such as the position of the center of rotation and absorbed skid power, are also dealt with in this paper. C © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

متن کاملModel-based Control of a fast Rover over natural Terrain
A model-based control for fast autonomous four-wheel mobile robots on soft soils is developed. This control strategy takes into account slip and skid effects to extend the mobility over planar granular soils. Each wheel is independently actuated by an electric motor. The overall objective is to follow a path roughly at relatively high speed. Some results obtained in dynamic simulation are prese...
متن کاملKinetic Model of a Skid Steered Robot
The paper introduces mathematical models of a skid steered mobile platform for robotics. The platform consists of a rectangular steel construction with four wheels. Two banks of two drive wheels on each side are linked to two DC electrical motors via chain on sprocket drive and gearing. The two drive assemblies for the left and right banks are identical but they operate independently to steer t...
متن کاملAnalysis and Experimental Kinematics of a Skid-Steering Wheeled Robot Based on a Laser Scanner Sensor
Skid-steering mobile robots are widely used because of their simple mechanism and robustness. However, due to the complex wheel-ground interactions and the kinematic constraints, it is a challenge to understand the kinematics and dynamics of such a robotic platform. In this paper, we develop an analysis and experimental kinematic scheme for a skid-steering wheeled vehicle based-on a laser scann...
